Shipyard Manager

Sunset Aquatic Shipyard is seeking an experienced, hands-on Shipyard Manager to lead our yard operations, manage our talented service team, and ensure our clients receive an outstanding experience. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in recreational or commercial boat repair — specifically hull, running gear, and mechanical systems — combined with strong leadership and customer-facing skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct daily shipyard operations, scheduling, and labor allocation while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment
• Provide hands-on technical oversight and quality control for bottom painting, thru-hull installation and service, drive line alignment and repair, rudder packing, and fiberglass/gel-coat repair
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients — provide estimates, deliver progress updates, and ensure customer satisfaction
• Mentor, train, and manage service technicians and yard crew, fostering a safety-first team culture
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with marine vendors to source parts and materials
• Serve as liaison with local and state environmental agencies

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on technical expertise in marine service, specifically bottom painting processes, thru-hull replacements, drive lines/shafts, and rudder packing
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of building positive relationships with customers and vendors
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and budgets simultaneously
• Deep knowledge of marine industry safety standards, OSHA regulations, and environmental compliance for boatyards

Qualified Shipwright

Experience in fiberglass repair, gel coat, woodworking, marine mechanical, or related marine trades. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a boatyard environment.

Skilled Bottom Painter

Experience with boat bottom preparation and anti-fouling paint application. Familiarity with haul-out procedures and attention to detail in surface prep and paint application.
